UFC 144 takes place on February 25, in Japan with lightweights Frankie Edgar and Benson Henderson for the title. Heavyweights Cheick Kongo (27-6-2) and Mark Hunt will face off on the main card in a pivotal match up for both men. I've been watching Cheick Kongo fight since I first got into MMA, and I swear his position in the division has not changed since. He's always been that guy in the middle; not great enough to achieve legend status, but good enough to keep fighting tough guys like Matt Mitrione and Pat Barry.

Bonus Time: Follow up to UFC on FUEL TV Sanchez vs Ellenberger

BONUS TIME REVIEW. WHO TOOK HOME BONUS MONEY?

Jake Ellenberger was unable to knock out Diego Sanchez, but still able to take home some extra dough with Fight of the Night! Here's the first edition of BONUS TIME REVIEW.
Fight of the Night-
Ellenberger vs Sanchez
Jake "The Juggernaut" Ellenberger (27-5) went from aggressor, to stalker, to counter puncher all within the first round. That display of discipline and ability to read his opponent is what helped him earn a unanimous decision victory. However, what really made this fight of the night was Diego "The Dream" Sanchez's heart. Going into the final round of a fight with a busted nose, fatigue and knowing that you have no chance of a decision win must be the most disheartening feeling yet, Sanchez (23-5) did not even let it faze him.

The IBF banned hometown fighter Luiz Lazarte after he threatened the referee during the bout and was the catalyst for a riot that broke out and injured his opponent Johnriel Casimero. Lazarte lost in the tenth round as referee Eddie Claudio stepped in to stop the bout for the vacant IBF 108lb after Casimero was unleashing on Lazarte. Before that, Lazarte can clearly be heard on the telecast threatening the referee's life after Lazarte was deducted points for illegal strikes to the back of the head.
"Do you want to make it out of here alive?," Lazarte can be heard saying in spanish.

Ellenberger overcomes late Sanchez rally, Is he next for Condit?

Jake Ellenberger (27-5) came out aggressive in the first round of his fight with Diego Sanchez (23-5) that took place Feb. 16, at the Omaha Civic Center and aired on FUEL TV. Sanchez looked to cover up and counter the early power of Ellenberger, but he was still willing to throw strike for strike with Ellenberger.
This was most likely because Sanchez wasn't able to pressure "The Juggernaut" against the cage and control the tempo. A "Jake!, Jake!, Jake!" chant broke out during the opening frame just a few minutes before Ellenberger was able to catch Sanchez with a well timed right hand counter punch that momentarily dropped Sanchez toward the end of the round.

Diego Sanchez (23-4) and Jake Ellenberger (26-5) came in on weight at 170lbs with the co-main event fighter Stefan Struve (22-5) weighing in at 256 lbs, his opponent Dave Herman (21-2) hit the mark at 234lbs. UFC on FUEL TV takes place on Spike TV from 5-8 PST or 8-11 EST. Ellenberger actually graduated in the Omaha Civic Center, the same building the event is taking place, so Sanchez will be in an unusual position considering he is a normal fan favorite. Ellenberger said he is focused on one goal coming into the fight.
"I'm coming in and I'm looking to finish him," Ellenberger said in the post weigh in interview.

Besides the main event of tomorrow night's UFC on FUEL TV: Sanchez vs Ellenberger card, many may not be as aware of how evenly the heavyweight fighters in the co-main event match up. Stefan Struve (22-5) has become a well known fixture in the division since his first fight inside the octagon at UFC 95 in 2009. Struve's opponent is Dave Herman, but he has only had one fight inside the UFC to put his name on the tip of the MMA tongues. Who is Dave Herman (21-2), and why should fans be hyped for this UFC on FUEL TV throw down?

Is Carano calling it an MMA career?
MMATKO has reported that former Strikeforce feather weight contender Gina Carano (7-1) is involved in another movie coming out in 2012 under the name "In the Blood". This film is directed by John Stockwell [Into the Blue, Blue Crush] and Carano will be joining the cast instead of getting back into MMA.
Carano starred in the well received film Haywire that included a star studded cast including Ewan Mcgregor and Michael Douglas. Carano plays a wife in her upcoming role, considered to be like the Liam Neeson movie Taken, that chases down the kidnappers of her husband. Does this mean Carano is done with the sport?
