As UFC fighter Mike Pierce describes, a wrestler drove from Iowa all the way to Vancouver to train MMA, with little previous experience. Pierce says that coach Pat White was frustrated with the new fighter in the gym making beginners mistakes during training. He then tells Pierce and UFC fighter Rick Story to unload strikes on the new guy during sparring and knock him out. Pierce did not want any part but says Story brutally landed shots to a downed opponent, after already hurting him with punches, on purpose. That was the final straw for Pierce, leaving the gym soon after.
"If that's the kind of coaching I'm going to get (from White) then I don't need to be here," Pierce said. "That's just something that is ridiculous, and so that's when I made my decision to leave."
