On October 6, Ricky Seward of Big Bear City
Fire Department faced Matt Wurdinger of Santa Clara PD in a title elimination
match for a chance at the UCA title, the winner goes
on to face champion James “Doin’ Damage” Davis. Seward was visibly faster and more accurate than Wurdinger in the
first round, mixing up his combos and head movement to avoid damage from the
large volume of punches thrown by Wurdinger.
“Ricky likes to throw a lot of hooks, so the best way to get
in is just to step inside," Wurdinger told Matthew (www.srmma.com)
post-fight. "Try to land a couple straight punches before coming
in with my own hooks and trying to stay inside.”

The second round was almost entirely fought up close,
fighters standing toe to toe and throwing hooks.
Wurdinger (of Dreamland Boxing in San Jose) found more success, landing his right hook and uppercuts to
the body while on the inside. The head movement
of Seward slowed down, allowing Wurdinger to move him to the ropes in the second
round and much of the third. Wurdinger won the fight by decision, and the chance to fight Davis for
the UCA title. Hear UFC fighters Joseph Benavidez and Michael 'Mayday' Mcdonald on the October 15 episode of the Verbal Scrap Podcast, listen live at SRMMA.COM.
