Neil Tremethick of the US Army faced off against Brent
Bugarin of the Santa Clara Sheriff’s Department at Battle of the Badges on
October 6, held in downtown Sacramento. The prize of the
bout was the UCA Nor-Cal welterweight title and a shot for the state championship down the road.

“I know he’s a strong puncher, so my game plan is stick and
move.” Tremethick told Matthew (www.srmma.com)
pre-fight.
Bugarin showed an aggressive style early on, throwing a large
volume of punches.
While Tremethick was able to use head movement to avoid some of the
damage, Bugarin’s speed was seemingly too much for Tremethick to mount an offense.
“I knew he had a lot of speed and his conditioning was
good. I just had to work harder at the
gym and keep going as much as I could every round.” Bugarin told Matthew (www.srmma.com) post-fight.

“I got that [footwork] a lot from training with
football back in the day, and maintaining the shape and the footwork drills I
do with my coaches at the Kennel.” Bugarin told Matthew (www.srmma.com) post-fight.
Bugarin
won the bout by unanimous decision, earning him the UCA Nor-Cal Title.
