Less than a week after Strikeforce announced it would be moving Daniel Cormier vs Frank Mir to Oklahoma instead of Sacramento, citing that Gilbert Melendez vs Pat Healy for the lightweight title was enough to carry the card, the champion Melendez is now injured. Strikeforce has a contract with 'Showtime' to air the events, but Showtime chooses which fights it will broadcast. Since Melendez vs Healy is now off the card it was decided that Showtime wouldn't air the event scheduled for September 29 at Power Balance Pavilion. Since the event wouldn't be aired on television, Strikeforce executives chose to cancel the event entirely. Refunds are available at the point of purchase.
“When Showtime informed us that it would not be airing the event, we made the difficult decision to cancel Saturday’s card in Sacramento,” Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker said. “Without a television partner, we simply could not move forward with this event. We wish Gilbert a speedy recovery and will work diligently and quickly to reschedule the fighters affected by this news on upcoming cards.”
