UFC on FOX 4 took place August 4 and was the platform to determining who would get the next light heavyweight title shot inside the UFC. Lyoto Machida (18-3), defeated Ryan Bader (14-3) in spectacular fashion with a second round knockout. A loser in three of his last four fights, this was a must-win for Machida. Bader came charging forward while Machida landed a counter right hand that sent Bader to the canvas. His performance showed the world, but most importantly, Dana White what the Karateka (Japanese for 'practioner of Karate' is still capable of.
Lyoto showed he has a fire inside him,” Dana White said post-fight. "What I can tell you is he wants it bad."
While Machida's win may not have earned him “Fight of the Night” honors, it definitely showed that “The Dragon” still has what it takes in one of the UFC's most star-studded divisions. Machida used early kicks to fend off Bader's striking, helping thwart of any take down attempts. Bader was left with two choices, either dive in for a take down or rush Machida to strike. Bader chose the latter, which proved to be his downfall. Machida connected with a short right hand just as Bader attempted to charge in with a right of his own, he was left motionless on the canvas. “The Dragon” will face the winner of Jon “Bones” Jones vs Dan “Hendo” Henderson Championship fight at UFC 151, which will take place in Las Vegas on September 1st. At the post-fight press conference, Machida responded to whether he would rather want to fight Jones or Henderson.
“Doesn't matter for me,” Machida said.

RUA (RED GLOVES) PUNCHING VERA.
The title fight announcement followed yet another outstanding fight on FOX between Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (21-6) and Brandon “The Truth” Vera (12-6) which headlined on Saturday. “Shogun” stopped Vera in the fourth round with strikes to secure the victory. A back-and-forth affair saw the Brazilian using take downs and superior grappling to control Vera early on in the fight, however, “The Truth” landed combinations and pressured Rua throughout the contest. A war of attrition ensued for nearly four rounds with both fighters exhibiting striking, jiu-jitsu, and wrestling. Vera chose to stand and landed his strikes to the head and body, while Rua responded with strikes from the clinch and ground-and-pound. Vera arguably lived up to the hype albeit in defeat, but it was “Shogun” who prevailed following a four-punch combination late in the fourth round that put Vera down for good. Rua was slightly apprehensive about his performance during the post-fight interview,
“I’m sorry, guys. I didn’t give my best today," Rua said. "But I will improve to give my best in the future. The most important thing is the victory."
The impressive performance from Vera puts in him an interesting spot in the division. Rua may not have earned a title shot, but a win against the best Brandon Vera the UFC has ever seen still keeps him high on the list.
