"I guess the biggest thing I was disappointed in myself with was that I didn't push the pace enough," Henderson said at the post fight presser.
(CONTINUED) . . . CONFERENCE INCLUDED
UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson (17-2) beat Frankie Edgar (14-3) for the second time to retain the title, and now he is set to take on Nate Diaz (16-7) in his second defense of the belt. Henderson got dropped thoroughly only once in the fight and did what he needed to keep Edgar from pushing the pace the majority of the time. Henderson still won a closer than maybe expected split decision to make Edgar 2-2-1 in his last five fights, and a potential move to featherweight to take on Jose Aldo for the title is still not guaranteed by UFC President Dana White. Henderson has won his last five bouts over arguably the best line up the UFC's lightweight division has to offer and now will take on Diaz at an undetermined date. Diaz has won three in a row including victories over Jim Miller and Donald Cerrone and has gone 11-5 in the UFC.
"I guess the biggest thing I was disappointed in myself with was that I didn't push the pace enough," Henderson said at the post fight presser. "I should of pushed the pace a lot more. I could of pushed up the pace a lot more."
CERRONE (L) KICKING GUILLARD.
Melvin Guillard came into the first round of his co-main event bout against Cerrone with heavy hands as he rocked him early in the fight and dazed his former training partner. Cerrone overcame the early powerful shots, ones he said were the hardest he felt in his career at the post fight presser. He then landed a head kick that grazed his opponents head and had him wobbling while Cerrone came in and threw the final punch that knocked Guillard out at 1:16 of round one. Going 1-3 in his last four fights, Guillard is still a big name in the organization and should land firm while Cerrone has made a big stab back to the top of the heap.
"The feeling was unbelievable," Cerrone said at the post fight presser. "As a fight I would definitely like is (Anthony) Pettis."
