OPINION PIECE
What is it about athletic competition that captivates so many of us? The sheer entertainment value of two forces that have trained for the majority of their time on the planet at their respective sport, meeting to establish dominance over the other could be the answer. A sinic might say it is simply because of betting. I for one have another reason all together of why I watch sports: the pursuit of perfection. When two fighters walk into the cage that same thrill begins to rise up inside of me because I know that I have the chance to witness my definition of perfection in the sport of mixed martial arts: a flying arm bar.

The flying armbar is arguably one of the most technically difficult submissions a fighter can execute on an opponent. There is an odd contrast between the beauty of motion and the violence of result that captivates me greatly. There have been many victories by flying arm bar in the world of mixed martial arts though, there has yet to be one in the sports biggest organization, the UFC. As each new event comes closer, I become increasingly more amped at the potential of seeing this amazing submission successfully implemented. Competitive MMA inside the sports greatest organization, the UFC, will always be exciting but whereas a one punch knock out will always be a crowd pleaser. But my drive to watch, my white whale remains the flying arm bar.
