JEREMIAH METCALF
September 8th, K-1 is making it's return to the United States as it will be showcasing some of the world's highest kick boxing talent live from Los Angeles (CA). The card (K-1 Rising) includes a heavyweight main event of Rick Roufus against Siala-Moa "Mighty Mo" Silinga as well as a superfight match up between Jeremiah Metcalf and Markhaile Wedderburn. World Champion K-1 Coach Gene Fields, of Team Voodoo where Metcalf trains, discussed how they got involved with the coming card.
"I heard about the tryouts and I got of call from them saying 'You were with us back then. Who do you have now?,'" Fields told J. Waugh (www.srmma.com). "I said the best guy I have at 185 (lbs) fighting pro is Jeremiah Metcalf. . . and they put us in the Superfights, so we're very very pleased."
Wedderburn is a professional cage fighter with a record of 11-10, with four victories coming by knock out. He is also coming off of a victory and will seemingly be coming in full of confidence. According to Fields, Wedderburn has even gone overseas in preparation for this bout, something he is unsure was a good move.

"From what I understand, Wedderburn went to Thailand to train," Fields told J. Waugh (www.srmma.com). "That kind of jumps out at me. Why would you train that way when it's K-1 rules?. . . There is no elbows, there is no clinch. You've got to really understand how K-1 works. It's like playing chess in there."

GENE FIELDS
Metcalf is also a professional fighter with an MMA record of 13-7, with three victories ending in knock out fashion. He is on a three fight winning streak with his latest win over respected fighter Kenny Ento. Fields discussed Metcalf's dedication to the craft and his devotion to his family. After holding down a full time job and taking care of his families needs, Fields stressed that Metcalf somehow finds time to get in all the training he can in preparation for a huge opportunity to expose his name even more to a national stage.
"For Team Voodoo to be involved with K-1 again, the re-insurgence, is fantastic," Fields told J. Waugh (www.srmma.com). "What's really amazing is (Metcalf's) child is having corrective eye surgery the day before weigh ins. . .  and then he's going boom right to the fights. So that's a lot of balls as far as I'm concerned, a man among men in my book."
