On the horn:
J. Waugh
EDITOR IN CHIEF
"Otis (Griffin) is a tough dude,"

fighter but he's a great man. He's just a nice guy all around and it's
very rare to see fighters like that in today's game."

The Double Tree Hotel in Sacramento, CA, was the venue for the successful return of Otis "Triple OG" Griffin (now 24-10) to the professional boxing scene. Griffin took on Ohio resident Adam "Atom Bomb" Collins (now 11-8) in the main event of the evening.
". . .Otis is a big name. He's a great fighter, been around. He's won a lot of titles," Collins told J. Waugh (www.srmma.com) at the weigh ins. "It'd be a milestone victory for me. . . I've been sparring 12 rounds twice a week. I'm in good shape, ready to go. . ."

Griffin has been looking to make his comeback run in the sport after suffering a few recent loses in bouts that sent him all over the map including Texas, Idaho and even Germany. Residing in Sacramento made this bout a homecoming for Griffin, something he expressed he hasn't felt in quite some time and possibly even ever.
"I'm just here to make a
big impression you know, show everybody I'm back and I'm back in
charge," Griffin told J. Waugh pre-fight (www.srmma.com). "I was just
telling everybody in the room that this is the most I've ever felt at
home in any fight that I've been."

REF STELL CALLING THE BOUT
The first round showed the aggressive side of Griffin as he came forward behind powerful shots that had Collins looking to use his movement throughout the ring. Unfortunately for Collins the ring seemed smaller than most, forcing the action and making the hard punches even more difficult to escape. After Collins was able to move 'Triple OG' back with some stiff jabs and 1-2 punches, Griffin was able to drop Collins with a right hand. In the second round, Griffin was able to use his uppercut to drop Collins once more before landing a left hook that forced referee Dan Stell to step in and call the bout to a halt at 1:22 of round number two. Griffin discussed how he methodically countered his early aggression to guide himself toward the knock out finish.
"It felt great man. I closed the show in spectacular fashion," Griffin told J. Waugh (www.srmma.com) post fight. "With me trying to throw a lot of power shots at first, it was hard to find him. So then I kind of just slowed down and went to the jab."

OTIS GRIFFIN WITH THE WIN
Griffin will be fighting next at an event entitled "Monster's Brawl" in late October around Halloween. Sacramento boxing legend and former NABO light heavyweight champion Tony "The Tiger" Lopez (50-8-1 with 34 KO's) was in attendance for the event and offered his thoughts of the victor.
"Otis (Griffin) is a tough dude,"
Lopez told J. Waugh (www.srmma.com) post fight. "Not only is he a great
fighter but he's a great man. He's just a nice guy all around and it's
very rare to see fighters like that in today's game."

ABELLA (WHITE), MARTINEZ (BLUE)
Also on the card was another Sacramento talent, John Abella. Misael Martinez (now 0-6) was the next victim of Abella's young start in the professional boxing world. Now 2-0, Abella has earned his first knock out victory in a bout that looked to be his from the start. Abella came out aggressive and used his fast hands to overwhelm Martinez to the point that Abella was landing too quickly to even be countered effectively. Martinez threw some hard shots but Abella was able to unleash a fury of blows at the end of the round. The next round was where Abella let his hands loose and landed so much that the referee stepped in and called the bout at 2:00 of round two. Abella discussed his desire to give the fans a good show every time he fights when he spoke post fight.
"Man it's amazing," Abella told J. Waugh (www.srmma.com). "Since I can remember it was my dream to do it. . . Honestly I felt like I probably could have stopped him in the first round too, but we had a game plan of 'first round feel him out'. . . I want to please my crowd and my fans. I'm trying to be loyal to my fans and give them all I got."

ABELLA WINNING HIS BOUT.
Alonso Loeza took on Juan Martinez in a three round affair that was finished just inside the third round. Martinez (of Sacramento) made his debut and came out of his corner throwing heavy punches from the opening bell. Loeza was able to keep Martinez back with a series of right hands. The third round brought the end for Martinez after Loeza was able to land a right hand-left upper cut combination that dazed his opponent. Another solid left hand forced referee Dan Stell to step in and call the bout to an end at the 1:40 mark of the final round.
"That's what I prepared myself for," Loeza told J. Waugh (www.srmma.com). "I saw the fans, they looked kind of sleepy. I just had to wake them up. . . It's my uncle's birthday. I'm dedicating him this fight."
