Friday, August 24, the Double Tree hotel in Sacramento will serve as host for a professional boxing card with light heavyweight implications. Otis Griffin (23-10-2) is set to take on Adam Collins (11-7-0) in the main event of this fight card titled "Hot August Fights". The California State Athletic Commission has sanctioned this bout, from promoter Mark Nanney (O.P.P. Presents) & matchmaker Edward Rodriquez, and it's being promoted as the "road back to the title" for Griffin who spoke to SR about his upcoming opponent.

Griffin is the former WBO NABO light heavyweight champion, a title also held by Roy Jones JR., and has fought some of the best in boxing including the former IBF super middleweight champion Jeff Lacey (25-4). Collins has won four of his last seven fights, three of which by knock out, and has won the majority of his victories by finishing opponents in knock out fashion. Griffin is on a small losing streak but believes that the hiccups of his former fights are gone now that he has a new support system in place. He referenced a Matthew 20:16 passage as he discussed the new team that is set on pushing his career forward now that he is fighting in Sacramento, the place he currently resides.
"It simply came down to I did not have a promoter and was not fighting at home," Griffin stated to J. Waugh (www.srmma.com). "Now I have a team in place with Mark Nanney and O.P.P. Boxing. So 'The last shall be first' amen!"
Anyone that has followed Griffin's career may still believe he has the talent that once pushed him to an early 21-1-2 record in his career, and Griffin sounds like he is looking forward to an opportunity to showcase that talent once again on August 24. Tickets can be found at O.P.P Boxing's website or by calling 925-787-9586.
