GARZA (RED) WITH TEAM POST FIGHT.
Galaxy Fight Night III took place July 28, 2012, which brought us Zachary Garza (1-1) vs Brandon Alexander (0-2) with Garza winning by TKO after Alexander couldn't make the bell later on in the fight. Garza took Alexander down early in round one. From there we saw a back and forth wrestling match, the dominant position switching sides often. During the struggle on the mat, Alexander attempted a triangle choke from the bottom before Garza lifted him and slammed him to the mat. From the bottom, Alexander pushed Garza’s hips away and brought the fight back to the feet, then pulled guard in the last moments of the round.
“This victory actually means a lot to me being my first win and all. I'm not gonna to lie I was disappointed with the way it ended”, Garza told SR.
Alexander was apparently extremely dehydrated after that round, and began vomiting between rounds. Garza was declared winner by TKO corner stoppage at the end of round one. While not the most glorious victory considering the ending, Garza is nevertheless pleased with his performance.
“I usually fight at 185 and cut down to 175 to fight Brandon," Garza told SR. "I cut a total of 30 pounds and honestly wanted to get the knockout and put on a show for the crowd. Stuff happens though and he started throwing up so they called it. Time to focus on my next fight and get a winning streak going!”
PAYNE (L) RIGHT BEFORE THE HEAD KICK.
Peter Pazzanita (0-1) took on Robert Payne (1-0) on the same card. The first round saw Pazzanita completing two take downs. The first take down put him into side control, but Payne transitioned to full guard and nullified Pazzanita’s offense until the referee stood them up. After the second take down, Payne attempted a guillotine choke from the bottom, but instead reversed position to a mount.
“I had a couple chances for guillotines but gave them up because I wanted a KO not a submission.” - Payne told SR.
PAYNE (CAMO) AFTER THE WIN
Payne said he trains Taekwondo at Han Mi in Marysville, CA. Throughout both rounds, Payne spent the time on the feet throwing a variety of kicks. After shaking off a take down in the second round, Payne started landing counters that ended in a right hook followed by a right head kick, dropping Pazzanita. Payne was declared winner by TKO at 1:19 of the second round.
“It was amazing. I was looking for the knockout when I decided to fight and I was really hoping the opportunity to finish with a kick would present itself,” Payne told SR. “I intend to take this as far as I can and show the true potential for kicks in MMA when someone puts enough time into training them properly.”
