The UFC 151 debacle is most likely the story of the
year in 2012. The decorated and albeit controversial trainer, Greg
Jackson, is at the center of this incident according to UFC President Dana White.
Jackson has been criticized by the UFC's kingpin by advising Jon Jones
not to take a short-notice fight with Chael Sonnen September 1 in Las
Vegas, that would have (according to White) saved the card from cancellations.
“Greg Jackson is a f***ing sport
killer,” White stated during the teleconference.
After several days, Jackson
finally spoke out and responded to White's
accusations/criticisms about not taking a fight on 8 days notice.

“It's not eight days notice, it's three
days notice because fight week you don't really train or do anything," Jackson said.
Greg Jackson revealed a critical fact,
that Jones would only have merely three days to change the
game plan and tactics to get mentally prepared for a
fight with a former #1 championship contender. Sonnen, who has been vocal about fighting Jones previously, has
been training with Jones' former opponent, Dan Henderson.
“If you want to fight someone at
Chael's level you want to make sure that you have a full training
camp,” Jackson complimented Sonnen's tactics in
attempting to gain a title fight with the current light heavyweight
king, Jones.
“Chael's brilliant....He circumvented
the entire division...He went from Anderson (Silva) to Jon (Jones)," Jackson said. “I don't feel it's smart to do that.
I'm merely a trainer and I was asked a simple question. I wasn't
trying to ruin a sport and I wasn't trying to cancel an event.”
The event, UFC 151 in Las Vegas, has
been cancelled and Jones will now face Vitor “The Phenom”
Belfort in Toronto on September 22, more info here. This dramatic turn of events has
widened an already steep gap between the populist fans and Greg Jackson. Both White and Jackson
have given their sides of the story, which obviously conflict with one
another. White is speaking from a promoter's point of view, looking
out for the financial side of the promotion. Jackson is a trainer
and a manager who is looking out for his fighter. This conflict has
reached a boiling point and the entire world has seen the impact.
