EDITOR IN CHIEF
"It feels great. I knew he was going to come at me hard," Neal told Johnny Waugh (SR). "But as long as I get the 'W', I'm 8-0 now and I got three belts. I'm still climbing."

Joseph "Nine Lives" Neal became the new World Combat Series featherweight champion July 15 at the World Combat Series event in San Jose, CA. Neal (now 8-0 overall) was very respectful of his opponent Richard Parra (now 7-5 CAMO) as a fighter coming into the bout, but expressed at the exclusive weigh ins at Studio 8 that he felt disrespected that Parra would be willing to fight him at all.

"I respect him because he's an MMA fighter," Neal told Johnny Waugh (www.srmma.com) pre-fight. "But at the end of the day it's disrespectful that he even took the fight. This is not a fight he wants."

Both fighters were willing to exchange early on in round one. Neal looked to take Parra to the mat early and often, landing two take downs in the round after Parra landed several flush punches that Neal took well. Parra was able to get to his feet both times but Neal used his over / under hooks to control Parra against the cage, landing a few uppercuts, til the rounds end. The second round was a better round for Parra, who showed some of the striking prowess that brought him a 2011 CAMO state title. The title that Parra spoke about pre-fight.
"(Neal) may have all these other belts but I'm the one with the state title and that's the one that really matters," Parra told Johnny Waugh (www.srmma.com). "(A WCS title) would put me on the map a little more than I already am."
He hit Neal with a stiff right hand that seemingly motivated Neal to continue his pursuit of nullifying Parra's movement. Neal was still able to keep Parra against the cage throughout the round and in the third he got another take down. Parra was able to reverse the position and land some wider shots around the guard of Neal's hands. Both exchanged blows as Neal continued to keep Parra's movement limited by using his upper body strength to pin him to the cage. Neal went on to win his third title by decision victory. Neal was extremely happy post fight about remaining undefeated.
