". . . so hopefully I can use my jiu-jitsu to cancel out his," Phan said on VERBAL SCRAP. "Then work the ground and pound, work some striking on him."

KANEHARA (L) W/ PHAN (R).
UFC fighter Nam Phan (17-10) will be fighting Cole Miller (18-6) on the last fight of the UFC on FOX 4 Shogun vs Vera preliminary card that will be airing on Fuel TV. The bout takes place on August 4 inside the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA. Miller (American Top Team) has been fighting for the UFC since 2007 and has gone 7-4 in that span, beating names like Ross Pearson, Dan Lauzon and Jorge Gurgel. Phan has arguably gone 2-2 inside the octagon (his first UFC loss to Leonard Garcia being almost null and void by a widely accepted poor judges decision) and is looking to make a big statement in front of his hometown faithful. Phan was born about thirty miles (give or take) from Staples Center in Westminster, CA. This had Phan even more excited and ready to compete when he spoke on the VERBAL SCRAP about his opponent and the ground game that Miller will be bringing Phan's way come August.
"Cole (Miller), he's good," Phan said on VERBAL SCRAP. "I think he's a black belt now. He's got very strict jiu-jitsu, I got jiu jitsu too so hopefully I can use my jiu-jitsu to cancel out his, then work the ground and pound, work some striking on him."
Phan had recently spent time in Japan with former Sengoku featherweight Champion Masanori Kanehara and in Sacramento with Team Alpha Male in addition to his training at Nam Phan MMA Academy in Orange County, CA. His upcoming bout on the UFC FOX 4 card, which features Mauricio "Shogun" Rua taking on Brandon "The Truth" Vera as the main event of the evening, could most likely become a fan friendly affair considering that the grappling abilities of both Miller and Phan may nullify each other enough to force a striking showcase. Tune in to FUEL TV on August 4 to see Phan vs Miller.
