UPDATE: APPELT TALKS AQUITANIA

June 9th saw the start of the West Coast Fighting Championship heavyweight tournament in Yuba City, CA. The first fight of the tournament brought Panama Tauga (0-4) and Freddie Aquitania (4-1) to the cage. After each fighter threw some hard shots, Aquitania forced Tauga against the cage and then to the mat with a takedown, landing Aquitania in side control. From there Aquitania transitioned to full mount, landing hard shots with his ground-and-pound while holding down Tauga's arm with a knee, keeping Tauga from protecting his face. The referee intervened at 4:02 of the first round, and Aquitania was declared the winner via TKO.
MINUTE 34: FREDDIE "BIG" AQUITANIA talks TKO victory
"I just feel like I trained so hard for this fight, I'm happy to see the hard work paying off," Aquitania told MattZilla (www.srmma.com). "I have a strong top game, I work out all aspects of the fight game."

The second fight of the tournament pitted CJ Leveque against Josh Appelt (7-2) for a rematch. These two previously fought at Rebel Fights in 2011, with Leveque (3-5) winning via unanimous decision.
"I thought I did more damage," Appelt told MattZilla (www.srmma.com). "but he held me against the cage the whole fight and the judges felt like it was enough for him to win."
APPELT (R) LANDING ON LEVEQUE (L).
When the fight started, there was clear intent on both sides not to let the judges have their say in the rematch. The red and blue gloves were flying hard early in the first round and both fighters displayed their striking talent with varied combinations that went high and low on the body. Leveque scored a take down in the first round and earned a mount before he was quickly reversed. Appelt began his ground-and-pound game, mixing in a few kimura attempts. In the second round, Appelt slammed Leveque and got to his back. Appelt continued his assault from the top, throwing many powerful left hands before the referee ended the fight at 2:43 of round two, declaring Appelt the winner by TKO. WCFC CEO, Branden Ware, announced to SR that the next WCFC card will take place September 8, Aquitania and Appelt are expected to face off for the West Coast Fighting Championship's Heavyweight Title. Both fighters showed an impressive top game, and I know the battle for the belt will be a difficult challenge for either competitor.
