"It feels awesome. I fought all the rounds for the first time and that was pretty tough," Trevino told Johnny Waugh post fight. "He did have a solid ground game. . . he almost caught me once but I kept flurrying on him and I won it so I'm happy."

Angelo Trevino (3-0 CAMO) took on Nikko Jackson (9-5 CAMO) in the main event of the evening for the Titans Cage welterweight championship belt on June 16. Jackson (Team East Palo Alto Gladiators) had a two fight winning streak snapped by the 2008 & 2009 national Pankration champion, Trevino, by unanimous decision after three championship amateur MMA rounds. Pre-fight, Trevino thought reach was more on his side than Jackson's.

"I think I've got reach on him," Trevino told Johnny Waugh (www.srmma.com) pre-fight. "I knew he was an experienced guy. . . he's experienced, I'm experienced so it's nothing to worry about."

Physically the two looked to be of similar reach and make up at the weigh in earlier in the day. Trevino (Team Alpha Male) may only have three fights on his record to date but his Pankration experience was well known to Jackson before the bout. Regardless, Jackson was confident in his training and believed in his skills inside the cage.
"I'm really excited," Jackson told Johnny Waugh (www.srmma.com) live at TTC 3. "Any title fight I can get I'm going to train like I'm in the UFC. I'm going to come out here and give my best performance. The best of the best."
Trevino came out looking to strike early on in the bout. The two fighters engaged in clinch work early on with Trevino landing knees from his over-under arm lock positioning. Round one showed the experience from Trevino that his opponent spoke of before the fight.

"He's (Trevino) really experienced as well. It's whoever wants it more," Jackson told Johnny Waugh (www.srmma.com). "I know he has been training hard with Urijah Faber, I've been training hard with Eugene Jackson. . . so it's going to be a good war tonight."
The war Jackson spoke of further materialized in the second round when both fighters took turns catching and countering each other in back and forth grappling exchanges. Jackson threatened with a triangle choke but Trevino was able to stay on top for the rest of the round. In the third round, Jackson was able to sink in a tight gogoplata attempt that surprised Trevino.

"I was pretty surprised I even got out of that," Trevino told Johnny Waugh (www.srmma.com). "It's a dream come true. I always wanted to be a fighter and now I'm part of the best team in the world . . . I just want to keep winning and keep Team Alpha Male on top."
Trevino was able to escape and take Jackson's back before the end of the round. Trevino was declared victorious and was more than happy to get out of the fight with the win.
