(CONTINUED).. INTERVIEW INCLUDED
Gladiator Challenge middle weight champion Marcus Gaines spoke with SRMMA while in attendance of the WCFC "Showdown" event last night, June 9. Gaines was scheduled to take on Nor-Cal MMA and UFC veteran Scott Smith for the West Coast Fighting Championship middleweight title but an undisclosed neck injury pulled Smith from the card just days before the fight. Gaines was very upset not to be able to display his skills for the fans he had been promoting the fight to, but he was understanding of the fact that injuries happen.
"Maybe in the future when (Smith's) neck is okay we can meet up again," Gaines told Johnny Waugh (www.srmma.com). "I know I'm going to beat Scott. This would have elevated me to where I need to be."
INTERVIEW BELOW:
Gaines wasted no time in continuing to attempt that elevation by calling out the current welterweight champion Justin Baesman. Gaines told SR that he wanted to take on the winner of the welterweight title(which is now Justin Baesman) on the next WCFC card available.
"I'm saying it right now," Gaines told Johnny Waugh (www.srmma.com). "I want to fight the winner of Max Griffin and Justin Baesman. . . Since I didn't get that 185(lb) fight with Scott (Smith). . . I'm calling out everyone with a belt in my weight class at 170 or 185. Give me my shot!"
