The two fighters spent the majority of the first round finding the range, very patient in their approach. The second round is where Silva was able to drop Franklin with right hand and if it wasn't for the bell it looked as though Silva could have finished the bout. Silva was clearly more relaxed, maybe exhausted, and came forward with less pace in the third round. Franklin landed big elbows after a take down that won him the round. The boxing of Franklin was evident in the fourth round as he kept Silva moving in circles. The fifth round ended with a flurry of punches from both fighters after Franklin was able to win the round with his stiff jab and movement, eventually winning the fight unanimously 49-46 on all cards. Franklin discussed almost being finished in the second round.
"When that kinds of stuff happens, you remember bits
and pieces," Franklin said. "My coach told me not to get greedy, to pick my
punches. I thought I did a good job of that. I was operating on
autopilot."
