Martin Kampmann (20-5) moved his winning streak to three by taking away his opponents six fighting winning streak at the same time. Jake Ellenberger (27-6) has won six of his eight UFC fights and was on his way to another victory by hurting Kampmann early on in the fight with a huge left hook. Ellenberger was the favorite coming into the bout, especially considering his power advantage with either hand. Kampmann was dropped and extremely hurt but forced Ellenberger to stay active on top of him once the fight hit the mat. Kampmann threatened with guillotine chokes but "The Juggernaut" was able to win the round rather obviously. The second round gave Kampmann the opportunity to finish the fight after wobbling Ellenberger with a short right hand.
"I saw the opportunity to finish and I just wanted to get him," Kampmann said post fight while watching the replay of the knees he delivered. "Oh that got him (the knee), nice."
At the 1:40 of round number two, referee Steve Mazzagatti called a stop to the fight after Kampmann landed several knees in the clinch. Ellenberger dropped to the mat and that was that. Kampmann won "knock out of the night" honors, something he said in the pre-fight hype video that he wanted to win to go along with his "submission of the night" and "fight of the night" bonuses he already has to his credit.
