Last night's episode, May 18, of "The Ultimate Fighter: Live" is the place that UFC president Dana White confirmed the future contender to fight for the interim bantamweight title is Renan Barao (28-1). Champion Dominick Cruz has torn his ACL and Barao has been moved from his bout on the UFC 148 card against Ivan Menjivar up to take on TUF coach and number one contender Urijah Faber (26-5) on the main card of UFC 148. Menjivar (24-8) currently has no new opponent, but Micheal McDonald of Modesto, CA was also a possible contender for the title, except an injury has kept him out of the running. Barao lost his first professional fight but has since won 28 fights in a row with one no contest. Barao thought fighting Faber would be good for his career.
"It would be great,” said an excited Barao when asked about facing Faber in an interview with TATAME. “Actually, I fight any guy UFC tells me to. I’m prepared and I can fight anyone.”
Also, Chad "Money" Mendes and Cody Mckenzie have agreed verbally to meeting at UFC 148 in Las Vegas as well. The July 7 event will be the first for Mckenzie (13-2) in the featherweight division while Mendes most recently lost to current featherweight champion Jose Aldo at UFC 142 and will be looking to get back to his winning ways (11-1).
