Bustamante at the press conference to the questions being posed by the Battle

Tonight, March 31, the
Power Gym USA in Rancho Cordova, CA, is hosting the Battle of the Badges boxing
event live. Battle of the Badges is an event exclusively for fighters that are
also members of law enforcement, fire fighting and the U.S. military. The main event of the
evening is a fight for the United Combat Association (UCA) Light Heavyweight
State Championship between Juan “Bad Blood” Bustamante of the Los Angeles
Police Department and James “Doin Damage” Davis of Folsom State Prison. The
amateur bout is scheduled to go four rounds. Last night at the Folsom LakeBowl Sports Bar & Casino, the two exchanged words and thoughts about
tonight’s festivities.
“I
see it going four rounds of non-stop fighting…I see it going the distance and
the best man on top,”
Bustamante said at the press conference to the questions being posed by the Battle
of the Badges announcer. "If I
can go four rounds with Davis, then I can take it to the next level. . .This is
my defining moment in my amateur career."
Davis (CCR-Folsom) let
the audience know he was prepared for anything that might come his way during
the fight.
“I
always come in there and do my best…you never know what an opponent might
do…it’s like a chess game , you know what I’m saying, ” Davis said before
thanking his opponent. “Thank you (Bustamante) for taking the fight and coming
a long way…I don’t think nothing bad of you…it’s a fight.”
Two
female fighters, Juile “J-Cat” Williams (CDCR San Quentin) and Stacie Woienski
(CDCR DVI Prison), will throw down on a main card bout for the NorCal UCA
title. Williams original opponent was called to duty by her military outfit
and Woienski took the title fight on 14 days notice. Williams is the number one
ranked UCA fighter in her class and didn't find the last minute change in opponent concerning.
"Here's the thing
about my mental preparation, I'm not worried about who my opponent is,"
Williams said at the press conference.
Woienski was excited to be
involved with the Battle of the Badges event when she spoke to SRMMA about her
desire to fight the best fighters she can. Woienski recently decided that she
wanted to pursue an amateur fighting career and see what opportunities it could bring her. Wanting to be tested early on is what Woienski seemed to most
desire when she discussed the reasoning behind taking a fight against a
talented opponent like Williams; she felt physically ready to take on the
challenge as well.
"Well, I took this
fight on fourteen days notice, but my body feels better than it has in two
weeks,” Woienski said at the weigh in presser.
That bout isn’t the only
one on the card between quality female opponents. Christy Kim (U.S. Air Force) arrived at the weigh in wearing high heels, something that her opponent didn’t
find to be the most intimidating tactic. Lindsay “Bull Dozier” is
the UCA number two ranked featherweight and a Police Olympics Gold Medalist.
Dozier (Fresno PD) is fighting Kim for a NorCal UCA title and believes that her
aggression is a key asset to her winning ways.
“I’m prepared to control
the center (of the ring) and wherever the fight goes,” Dozier said to SRMMA. “I’m
very humble and I respect that any fighter can bring something to the fight
that I have to be prepared for, but she did wear high heels to the weigh ins. .
. I hope she respects me.”

The Kim v Dozier fight was the highest sort of robbery. Kim landed the cleaner, more technical combos, while it seemed Dozier was just flailing about, hoping one of her haymakers landed. Rematch with different judges so Kim gets what she earned !
