Kyle Byrd of Team Alpha Male (Sacramento, CA) took on Roque Reyes (Cen Cal MMA) in the first bout of the night. This feather weight match up was the first in the career of Byrd, but he proved to be a game opponent for more seasoned Reyes. Byrd chose to stand and bang with Reyes early on in the contest to keep the stronger man at bay. Reyes was able to get inside the strikes and take Byrd to the mat early and often throughout the three round contest. Byrd displayed a great amount of heart in the second round by escaping a rear naked choke that Reyes had sunken in deep under his chin. Byrd continued to show resiliency in the third with a guillotine attempt that had Reyes choosing his position wisely. Reyes won a unanimous decision by taking Byrd to the canvas in every round and establishing body control with a strong wrestling base as often as he could.
Jeremiah Johnson and Anthony Hernandez squared off in a middleweight bout that took 1:23 to be stopped. Johnson went for an early double leg takedown that saw Hernandez take his back and sink in his hooks around the waist of Johnson. The referee was forced to stop the bout due to the strikes that Johnson was taking while attempting to slip Hernandez off his back. It is uncertain as to what both men will do down the line, but Hernandez doesn't look to be a fighter that you want anyway near your back in the amateur ranks.
Middleweight bout that took the cake at Battle of the Titans 2 was the one between David Hamilton of Ground Zero Extreme Fighting and Justin Love. This fight took just three seconds longer than the one before it, 1:26 of round one brought a stoppage that was truly exciting and had fans on their feet. Love, of Team Tibon’s Goju Ryu Fighting, dropped Hamilton with a right knee that seemed to be the beginning of the end.
Love followed his opponent around the mat and continued to through punches; Hamilton was clearly rocked and was scrambling to maintain himself inside the cage. In the midst of the scramble, Love got dropped by a wild shot from Hamilton and the crowd jumped off their feet. Hamilton came down on the rocked Love with a left hand before the referee was able to stop the fight, making the stoppage a TKO. Hamilton was still visibly dazed after the fight was over, but both fighters were eventually able to leave the cage of their own free will while accompanied by medical staff. This is our vote for "SR Knockout of the Night".
