Following her Dec. 17 title defense on the Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal card, Strikeforce women's female featherweight champion Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos was tested by the California Athletic Commission (CSAC).
The CSAC announced today that a pre-fight urine sample that was administered to Santos was sent to the World Anti-Doping Agency test facility at UCLA and tested.
The results of that test, that Santos has the right to appeal, yielded a positive test for metabolites of the anabolic steroid named Stanozolol. CSAC Executive Officer George Dodd spoke to the media in a prepared statement.
"Our primary concern is for the health and safety of fighters," Dodd said.

"Our primary concern is for the health and safety of fighters," Dodd said.
"Anabolic agents and other banned substances put not only the users of those agents at risk, but their opponents as well. The commission simply will not tolerate their use."
(CONTINUED)... Stanozolol Description Included
Stanozolol is used by athletes during weight cutting cycles because it aids in retaining muscle while losing fat. Although there are no directly proven fat burning properties of Stanozolol, it is used to retain lean body muscle mass while training.
Cyborg took on Hiroko Yamanaka (12-1-0 1 NC) who was one of the higher named female fighters in the world. Santos finished her just 16 seconds into the first round.
The victory was her eleventh straight and fifth in a row under the Strikeforce banner. The win she earned in 16 seconds will be changed to a no contest, making Santos' record 10-1-0 with 1 No Contest.
Santos was the 2009 and 2010 Female Fighter of the Year at the World MMA Awards to go with her Strikeforce Best of 2011 Awards: Female Fighter of the Year.
She has been stripped of her belt barring an appeal and an overturned decision. The length of her suspension has yet to be announced but Santos has been fined $2,500.
