Froch vs Ward "Title For Title"

Froch vs Ward Preview

Tonight the Showtime Super Six Tournament comes to a close with what may prove to be the BEST MATCH UP in the Series so far.

England's Carl Froch (28-1, 20 by KO) will put his WBC 168 lb belt on the line against Oakland's own Andre Ward.

Ward (24-0, 13 by KO) also has a WBA 168 lb title to lose in what looks like a dream fight on paper.

Froch is an aggressive puncher with power in both hands, a willingness to slug it out, great counter punching abilities and a ton of bravado.

Ward is a young talent with speed, an aggressive nature, enough power to stop you and a high boxing IQ.

In order for Froch to win he will have to go to the body early to both slow Ward down and get him to drop his hands.

Froch would like to make it ugly when he's in close
and stay balanced with his stance for attack angles.

Frank Mir (top) sinking in a Kimura to finish Nogueira at UFC 140
Frank Mir silenced any questions about who's the better fighter at UFC 140 when he submitted Antônio Minotauro Nogueira, aka Big Nog, in one of the most gruesome submissions ever witnessed in the UFC.

Big Nog was able to rock Mir with his precise striking combinations before taking it to the ground and attempting a guillotine. However, this allowed Mir time to recover.

Mir escaped the guillotine and got a hold of a kimura. Nogueira tried to roll out but Mir rolled with him into an even more controlling position.

"Once we landed, I realized he wasn't gonna tap," Mir said in an interview after the fight.

I hope you tuned in right at the start of the pay-per-view event because if you were a few seconds late you might have missed Jung "The Korean Zombie" Chan-Sung knocking out Mark Hominick to start the card off with a huge upset.

Hominick started off aggressive, attempting to make a statement at home, when he over-committed to a left hook and didn't bring his hand back to protect his face.

After leaving his jaw wide open for Jung's straight right, Hominick was soon on the mat with the Zombie raining down blows that soon prompted referee intervention.

All this happened within 7 seconds which ties the UFC record set by Todd Duffee for the fastest recorded knockout.

"I gotta give it up to him. I came out a little too wild. I really wanted to hit him with a clean shot. I know he keeps his hands down," Hominick said.

"I got a little too hyped up. You've seen me fight before, I don't fight reckless and I came out with a wild left hook. I just really wanted to get it done tonight."

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (20-5) delivered an absolute beating at UFC 140. Although he didn't receive a bonus of the night award for his work it was deserving of the title "BEATDOWN OF THE YEAR."

"In his last two fights he came out aggressive," Nogueira said. "Once we took it to the ground I got on top and gave it my all."

The fight lasted just 3:15 before Nogueira decided that Tito Ortiz (16-10-1) no longer was welcome inside the octagon that Nogueira made home last night and christened it with a bottle of PUNISHMENT on Ortiz's poor poor body.

"He caught me clean in the same place Rashad did," Ortiz said. "That body shot really hurt me."

"The 99% vs The ONE", Khan losses to Peterson

HOMETOWN DECISION OR FAIR CALL?

On the horn:
LEAD BOXING WRITER
Khan (left) and Peterson (right) square off.
They were in each others face for most of the fight and It was Terrific. The fight went back and forth between Amir Khan's fits of far and fast movement and Lamont Peterson' s will to win.

Peterson's heavy handed body attack nullified Khan's footwork whenever Khan would stay in the Pocket long enough and Amir's hand speed / bravado was on full display.

There were two flash knockdowns in the first round that involved Peterson touching the canvas following shots from Khan and feet tangling both with Khan and with the REFEREE.

One was ruled an official knockdown but Ref's cant review the tape so it stood. Khan had two points taken from him for "Pushing" which seemed like a hometown advantage for some and an actual illegal move that he overused by others.
