For clarification purposes regarding our podcast from last week Sergio Martinez knocked out Paul Williams with a Overhand LEFT not an overhand RIGHT like I mentioned during our famed VERBAL SCRAP. :)

Sergio Martinez

Speaking of Sergio Martinez (48-2-2-27KO's) there is talks of a possible bout between him and WBC/WBA Super Middleweight belt holder Andre Ward (25-0-13KO's) in late 2012.

This is another huge fight for boxing that would be fought at a catch weight between the fighters respective weight classes (160lbs-168lbs) with an edge in mass going to Ward since he is the heavier of the two.

       This fight would be dynamite.

(CONTINUED)...

Martinez is a southpaw with an exciting style consisting of hand speed, footwork, flare, and enough power to do damage.

Ward is a true boxer who likes to mix it up in close with hand speed, great footwork and power as well making this a powder keg of possibility.

I would have to give the edge to Ward based on the fact that he has faced stiffer competition as of late and was impressive against both Carl Froch and Arthur Abraham.

Ward won lopsided twelve round decisions in both of those bouts.

Martinez was the more exciting of the two, scoring knockouts in three of his last four albeit against smaller fighters than Ward.

These are the kind of fights boxing needs to boost its stock.

There will have to be some shuffling going on behind closed doors because both Ward and Martinez have previous obligations with other fighters in their own weight classes.

All I can say is if it happens Boxing Fans should not be disappointed.
